Changes to renewal dates for .CH and .LI domains as of March 3, 2016
Currently .CH and .LI domains show a discrepancy in renewal dates depending whether they have been registered in our system or have been transferred in from another registrar. This leads to renewal dates that have different time spans in relation to the Expiration Dates.
In general, renewal dates are calculated basing on the creation date - the point in time of a successful registration: Renewal Date = CreationDate + [period] Years - 1 Day to cover any eventualities. For most TLDs this is no problem since registries are calculating expiration dates using the same scheme: CreationDate + [period] Years.
The .CH/.LI registry differs from this scheme: expiration dates are always at the end of a month: ExpirationDate = End_of_month(CreationDate)+ [period] Years i.e. 2015-01-31, 2015-04-30, etc.
We would like to change the scheme in our system by calculating renewal dates for .CH/.LI domains based on the expiration date that is retrieved from the registry. Only the renewal date will change, the date on which our system will charge the renewal.
Current state for .CH/.LI domains:
Creation date 2014-12-10 (Registration in our System)
Expiration date 2015-12-30 23:00:00 UTC (Date coming from Registry)
Renewal date 2015-12-09 (Date is calculated by our Metaregistry:
Creation Date + 1 Year - 1 Day to cover any eventualities)
Creation date: not existing, cannot be retrieved from Registry
Expiration date 2015-01-30 23:00:00 UTC (Date coming from Registry)
Renewal date 2015-01-29 (= Expiration Date from Registry - 1 Day to cover any eventualities)
In future, the renewal date for .CH/.LI domains registered in our system will be calculated as follows:
Creation date 2014-12-10 (Registration in our system)
Expiration date 2015-12-31 23:00:00 UTC (Date coming from Registry)
Renewal date 2015-12-30 (= Expiration Date from Registry - 1 Day to cover any eventualities)
For incoming transfers no changes apply.
The change will be implemented in our live system on March 3, 2016 (13:00 UTC). We do not expect any unavailability. However, we schedule one hour of maintenance work for .CH/.LI domains.
.LI is the official country code Top-Level-Domain (ccTLD) of Liechtenstein.
A .LI Domain is normally used by companies or private entities who are located in Liechtenstein or who have business relationships with Liechtenstein.
- Minimum: 3
- Maximum: 63
- Letters and numbers
- Hyphens ("-"), however not at the beginning or directly in front of the TLD
.LI domains can be registered online through webinterface or API.
(required) command = AddDomain domain = yourdomain.li period = ... ownercontact0 = [owner handle] admincontact0 = [admin contact] techcontact0 = [tech contact] billingcontact0 = [billing contact] nameserver0 = [nameserver1] nameserver1 = [nameserver2]

A change of ownership can be accomplished with the TradeDomain command or webinterface and is free of charge.
(required) command = TradeDomain domain = yourdomain.li ownercontact0 = [new owner contact]
As .LI domains can only be registered on a yearly basis, they cannot be renewed explicitly. To renew an .LI domain you have to set the domain renewal mode or default renewal mode to "AUTORENEW" or "RENEWONCE".
.LI Domains can be deleted online throught the Delete Command.
(required) command = DeleteDomain domain = yourdomain.li
Upon deletion the domain will not be deleted instantly. The domain owner will receive an email notifying him about the fact that his domain is scheduled for deletion and it will be deleted if no further action is taken within 17 days. He will also receive the transfer code of the domain along with this email, so he may transfer the domain to another registrar.
Only specific numbers of nameservers can be attached to a domain. The allowed Numbers are
- 2 servers,
- 3 servers or
- 4 servers
.LI Transfers are possible.
.LI Transfers can either be done through the RRPproxy WebInterface or API.
A transfer has to be requested with a so called authorization- / transfer-code which can be requested at the current registrar.
The transfer of an .LI domain will be proceeded in nearly realtime.
Restores are possible within 17 days upon deletion. A restore can be requested via API command or via webinterface.
(required) command = restoredomain domain = yourdomain.li
Please note: The restore request will be manually processed by our support team. You will be notified by email.
